Practice
Claire’s practice lies principally in the life sciences field. She has special expertise in all aspects of biotechnology patenting, including gene-related and immunology-related inventions.
Her experience includes handling high-profile patent applications in the fields of genetic diagnostics and synthetic biology, which have been the subject of considerable interest and comment beyond patent professionals. She has worked with major corporations, universities and research institutes as well as small companies on areas such as biologic therapeutics, including engineered antibodies, T-cell technologies and biofuels.
Claire also has much experience of handling patent portfolios demanding inter-disciplinary input from patent professionals in the fields of biotechnology and electronics, including nucleic acid sequencing systems and medical and diagnostic devices.
Claire has extensive experience of opposition and appeal proceedings at the European Patent Office, including both defending and opposing high-profile patents in the biotechnology field, and is a member of the specialist Oppositions and Appeals Team of the firm.
Claire is much in demand for her commercial approach to IP strategies and has been responsible for building the IP portfolios of a number of companies. She also has extensive freedom–to-operate and due diligence experience.
Claire entered the patent profession after gaining her first degree at Oxford University in biochemistry with supplemental chemical pharmacology and obtaining a PhD from St Georges Hospital Medical School, London.
