Practice

Jason advises clients on all aspects of intellectual property, drawing on his unique commercial background to deliver commercially-focused outcomes that add real value to their businesses. Jason specialises in packaging, automotive, energy and aerospace, but his experience extends across a wide range of mechanical and electro-mechanical fields.

Jason heads up the firm’s packaging team and he has extensive commercial experience in primary and secondary beverage packaging. His practice covers a wide range of mechanical and electro-mechanical technologies, with a particular emphasis on primary and secondary packaging, injection moulding and plastics processing, braking and powertrain systems.

The majority of Jason's work is in drafting, filing and prosecuting patent applications throughout the world for both SMEs and multinationals. He regularly advises clients on infringement avoidance and freedom to commercialise, portfolio enforcement and dispute resolution matters. Jason has also advised on multi-jurisdiction portfolio acquisitions, secured successful outcomes in EPO oppositions and examination hearings and UK IP Office Opinions and provided litigation support in High Court proceedings.
Jason holds a Bachelor of Applied Science in Mechanical Engineering (Honours) from the University of Waterloo, Canada. Before entering the patent profession, he spent five years in project management and technical sales at a multinational manufacturer of plastic injection moulding equipment in Canada, Luxembourg and the UK.

Jason is a European Patent, Trade Mark & Design Attorney and a Chartered UK Patent Attorney. He is also bilingual (French & English) and has successfully completed the USPTO Patent Bar Exam.

In his spare time, Jason enjoys flying light aircrafts (as a qualified pilot - EASA Part-FCL IMC/IRR) and building a roadster (from scratch), both of which provide him with a particular insight into some of his clients’ technologies.
Jason joined HGF in 2013 and is based in our Birmingham office.
