He has advised multinationals, SMEs and academic institutions on uncovering, obtaining and protecting and leveraging their intellectual assets. He undertakes high-value due diligence work for acquisitions by VCs and PE firms as well as in respect of MBOs/MBIs. Chris has also advised on inward and outward licensing matters both from and to multinational organisations.

Chris is the head of our Oppositions and Appeals Group and regularly advises clients on high profile matters. He has an enviable success rate in both defending and attacking patents in Opposition and Appeal proceedings at the European Patent Office. Chris has coordinated multi-territory oppositions and strategic litigation domestically and abroad.

Chris is mentioned and personally recommended in the major patent attorney ratings lists, including IAM Patent 1000, the world's leading patent professionals (2017, 2016), Chambers & Partners and Legal 500.

He holds a PhD from the University of Birmingham in Physical Chemistry, an MSc in spectroscopy from the UEA and a First degree in Environmental Chemistry from UEA. Chris is also Principal Examiner for the Patent Examination Board, the body which organises the exams for qualification as a Chartered Patent Attorney.
