Marie-Louise’s practice covers chemistry, material science, and devices. She has special expertise in pharmaceuticals, drug delivery, biomaterials, polymers, surface chemistry, implants and medical devices.


Marie-Louise has worked in the IP field since 1999. She joined HGF in 2017. She advises clients on all aspects of patent protection, including drafting, prosecution, defence and enforceability, and has considerable experience of patent due diligences.


After graduating with a M. Sc. degree in Chemical Engineering, Marie-Louise worked as a drug delivery scientist before entering the patent profession in 1999. She qualified as European Patent Attorney in 2003 and is also an Authorized Patent Attorney in Sweden. She worked as an in-house patent attorney at a major global pharmaceutical company as well as in private practice before joining HGF as Patent Director in 2017.


Marie-Louise has extensive experience from drafting, filing and worldwide prosecution of patent applications; pre-patenting investigations; and freedom-to-operate analyses including infringement and validity analyses. She has also worked on several major due diligences evaluations, such as deals involving in-licensing and acquisition of high value pharmaceutical products as well as consumer products, and she has provided IP support in agreement negotiation and drafting associated therewith. She also has experience of opposition and appeal proceedings at the EPO.

Marie-Louise has been recognized for providing pro-active and commercially focussed counselling. She is also knowledgeable about risk assessment for drugs in development taking possible regulatory exclusivities and patent term extensions into account. She has a strong interest in research and product development and the alignment of IP strategy with the present business goals.


As a patent attorney, she has worked with clients in a wide variety of business areas covering NCEs, drug delivery preparations, smokeless tobacco products, nonwovens, polymer dispersions, plastic materials, liquid crystalline materials, biodegradable implants, bone implants, surgical instruments, hygiene absorption products and fastening devices.
