Practice
Achim's practice covers a wide range of chemical, pharmaceutical and mechanical inventions. He acts for a diverse range of companies and academic institutions across these technologies. In particular, Achim has advised clients on numerous and diverse technologies including oil and gas technology; renewable energies and chemicals; catalysis; chemical synthesis; medical devices; nanotechnology; material sciences; and polymer materials.
Achim has considerable experience in the creation and management of cost-effective and tax optimised IP portfolios. He also regularly represents clients in Opposition and Appeal Proceedings before the European Patent Office and supports clients in multi-jurisdictional contentious situations. He further regularly advises, often at the board level, on intellectual property-related aspects of technology projects and transactions. Achim also conducts due diligence investigations into IP portfolios of technology companies, primarily for venture capital and private equity investors.
Achim presently is serves on the Board of LES Benelux, and regularly lectures on technology licensing. Achim is qualified as a Dutch, Belgian and European Patent Attorney, a registered European Trade Mark and Design Attorney, and graduated from the University of Heidelberg with a diploma and a doctorate in Chemistry, and a DESA in Patent Litigation from the University of Strasbourg.
