Practice
Tobias J. Hessel has worked as an attorney since 2009 and advises and represents clients in national as well as multi-jurisdictional litigation cases. He mainly represents clients in patent and utility model infringement cases and in parallel opposition and nullity proceedings at the European Patent Office and the German
Federal Patent Court. He also represents clients in damages proceedings. Tobias’ clients are predominantly in the fields of information technology, telecommunications, medical devices and mechanical engineering.
Tobias studied law at the University of Osnabrück. He worked as a research fellow at the Institute for White Collar Crime (Prof. Dr. Andreas Ransiek, LL.M.) at the University of Osnabrück where he earned his Ph.D. based on a thesis which compares German and U.S. American law.
Throughout his career, Tobias has focused on intellectual property law and U.S. law. During his internship as a legal clerk he worked at an international law firm in Düsseldorf and Chicago with a focus on intellectual property law. He has experience in handling cross-border proceedings involving taking evidence under the
rules of the Hague Convention.
Tobias is a visiting lecturer in patent law at the law faculty of the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University, Frankfurt am Main, and visiting lecturer at the law faculty of the University of Osnabrück for Patent Law.
